WellPath
Launches Small Business Insurance Using Crescent Network
June
27, 2007
For
more than two years, Crescent has been working with Charlotte-based
WellPath to develop a competitive health insurance program for small
businesses in Western North Carolina.
Crescent is
not an insurance company, but has the most extensive network covering
Buncombe, Henderson, Rutherford, Haywood, McDowell, Jackson, Macon,
Transylvania, Cherokee, Madison, Polk, Yancey, Mitchell, Swain,
Clay and Graham counties. When WellPath were looking for a partner
to help them develop a provider network in the western part of the
state, Crescent was a natural choice. WellPath developed a fee schedule
specifically designed to allow them to offer attractive premiums
to small business owners, then used the "messenger model"
process to build a suitable panel of providers across the region.
As part of Coventry
Health Care, WellPath has a wealth of experience and the solid financial
resources required to offer health insurance in North Carolina.
The NC Department
of Insurance approved WellPath's rates earlier this month, and insurance
brokers received orientation. Effective immediately, small business
owners can begin requesting rate quotes for policies to become effective
on or after July 1, 2007.
A website has
been created to support the sale of this small business insurance.
